The school received £8,510 specifically to enable them to work more closely with the wider community. Their project had two aims:

• to purchase iPads, and to provide sessions for members of the wider local community to gain the skills and confidence to use them
• to learn from key people within the village about the history of the area and how things were different before technology

A questionnaire and advertising in the Village Voice newsletter helped to provide the pupils at the school with a good understanding of what IT support was needed by members of the community.  Key areas of interest for those taking part were: sending e-mails, using FaceTime to connect with family members living near and far, and uploading photographs. Sessions on these topics at the beginning of 2020 were very successful. In addition the pupils were fascinated to hear how life had changed from older members of the community who covered topics such as farming life, choir singing, school life and much more.

“All involved had a great time but the learning was cut short due to the pandemic. When safe to do so, we are looking forward to recommencing the project. I’m sure the basic lessons learnt  back in the New Year will now have been even more valuable as the world of technology has changed yet again and different generations have now used technology as one way to communicate with each other during lockdown. We are extremely grateful to the Brechfa Wind Farm funding to have allowed us to connect with each other through technology.”
